WonderLookPro is now FREE!

Until now, we have provided functions to IS-mini users for free, but with V4.5, all functions have been opened to all users. It can be used not only for IS-mini control but also for creating and processing Lookup Tables for various purposes.

What is WonderLookPro?

WonderLookPro is a comprehensive color management software explicitly designed to handle the large number of color space corrections found in today's complex video productions. Using algorithms developed by Fujifilm and LUT technology from TVLogic, WonderLookPro manages the color space differences of cameras and displays to create a balanced color space for more reliable and creative grading. WonderLookPro helps the production team create video productions with correct color consistency.

The  purpose of the WonderLookPro software is to make extremely accurate LUTs. The diagram above shows LUTs are created by (1) using profiles or conversions TVLogic is providing through the internet, (2) manual color correction by the user and (3) various other settings. The created LUTs can be sent in real-time to a connected LUT box or camera, as well as exported for use in post-production software. WonderLookPro is known for the flexible way the software creates LUTs.

The most important part of creating a LUT is the color management. WonderLookPro uses a highly versatile color management engine based on ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) color management architecture to make extremely accurate LUTs even by staff not familiar with color science techniques.

The management of LUTs is also worth to emphasize,(will explain later) so the LUTs can be utilize not only as it is but also multiple projects.

The function to make "creative Looks" is also surpurbe. Adding to simple and powerful color correction interfaces, analizing looks or assistance for shooting by using still image, visualizing LUTs, supports for mutiple LUTBOXes or other various functions will help to make better motion picture footages.

Comprehensive Color Management with a Simple GUI

The essential function of video/motion picture production regarding color reproduction is to convert one color space to another and add creative color correction if necessary. Combining these two functions is called "color transform". WonderLookPro efficiently handles these two functions when creating LUTs.

Accurately converting one color space to another requires managing the correct color space information and handling the color space correctly. Creating customized LUTs which with other solutions is very time consuming and difficult to maintain a stable look without proper training in color science. Color management systems need to account for the input color space, the working color space, the output color space and finally the rendering transform. WonderLookPro software efficiently manages the complexities of color space conversion while the operator simply selects the parameters in the software interface (GUI).

There are many software products which do color correction. What is the benefit to use WonderLookPro for color correction?

WonderLookPro takes a color management approach to color correction to provide more reliable color grading and creative opportunities. The software does not have sophisticated, high-end functions such as secondary correction with masks or multiple layers as most grading software has. Instead, WonderLookPro provides a simple interface that allows non-specialists to correct color. WonderLookPro also includes a library of various film Looks and readily accessible with a few clicks of the mouse. Another benefit is that the created Looks can be used in multiple projects. A Look can be used for other types of cameras, or you can use the same look for SDR and HDR projects.

Powerful LUT Management and Utilization

WonderLookPro creates LUTs automatically when a user sets the color space parameters or makes a color correction.  If a LUT-box or camera is connected the created LUT will be sent to the device immediately and the result displays in real-time. This function quickly allows the operator to fine-tune the color. WonderLookPro do not convert images themselves but just creating LUTs. That's why it can be usable on standard spec of laptop machine.

Once created, looks are saved onto a list which can be selected and updated instantly just by clicking. These look lists can be exported to a wide range of LUT formats with ancilally information including captured images if the device is capable. The parameters can be changiable from used when look creation. Any LUTs files can be imported into WonderLookPro. Not only using as it is but WonderLookPro can convert input/output parameters. For example, it is possible to convert a LUT made for DCI-P3 into a LUT for Rec. 709, or converting a LUT made for SLOG3 to an Arri Alexa Log-3 LUT.

Image Analysis useful for shooting and color grading

WonderLookPro can hold still image, which can be loaded from file or captured by IS-miniX, BoxIO or any other capture capable devices. The image is processed by the new LUT immediately after created.  If you are using IS-miniX, you can view live image with the LUT processed realtime.

WonderLookPro includes a Waveform display to assist with color correction. Percent (%), 10-bit CV and nit description are refreshed each time LUTs are created. Hovering the mouse pointer on the image displays information about the position of the pixel in the graph with three small white circles, which can be copied to be used by spread speed like MS Excel. This is extremely useful for confirming the exposure level of highlights or shadows or quickly confirming the amount of lighting. Monitoring the graph before or after the LUT is created, helps to confirm the image both the camera signal and final footage.

You can selsect neutral area to match the gray balance of the image. By using this function, you can adjust the difference of the color temperature of the lighting or lens color cast by one action.(It is valid for the device which is capable of frame grabbing) Another function is to match one camera's specific color to another camera's specific color. It can be used for skin color matching.

The application of still image is not limited to above. When you keep look to the list, the still image is saved with the look and it can be re-load at any time. When you exporting to create LUT file, the images before and after the LUT process can be saved with LUT files, which is very useful for the confirmation of post production software configuration.

You can use not only your images but also the preset images we are providing. Currently, we are providing one SLOG3 pictorial image and variety of CG images, which include gray ramp, color ramp, color chart, flag color image (you can input the value!), all of which is useful for system analisys.

If you are using the device which is capable of playing still image to SDI output, you can send the image to the device. Currently, only IS-miniX is the supported device but we have a plan to support BoxIO in near future.

As explained above, WonderLookPro have many functions using still image to help users for creation or evaluation of looks.

Flexible and Powerful Multi Camera Support

You can use WonderLookPro from a couple of LUT-Boxes to dozens of LUT-Boxes. To support such big number of cameras projects, WonderLookPro has "Grouping" and "Look Sync" functions.

The "Grouping" function is to send the same LUT to all of the devices in the group. It is useful for a 4K camera system with QuadSDI or making one specific camera type group where the project contains different types of cameras.

"LookSync" function is to apply the same color correction to the different type of camera (different IDT), different rendering or different monitor setting (like HDR and SDR).

The combination of "Grouping" and "LookSync" is very convenient for projects with a large number of cameras.

Above example is for 4 units of 4K camera, 4 units of HD camera, and they are deviced into A,B,C three look sync groups.

Camera Control and getting and manging of MetaData

The main objective of WonderLookPro is to make creattive LUTs, but to support the entire workflow, it can get metadata information of the camera from SDI or network, which contains camera settings, status or lens information. The metadata can be saved with look and exported with the lut to be used at post production.

And currently, only for Panasonic Varicam series and ARRI's Alexa/Amira, WonderLookPro can control the camera itself for Rec start/stop, white ballnace, ISO setting and other settings(depending on the camera type).

As explained above, WonderLookPro suports on-set workflow by full utilization of LUTBOX and camera.

Above example is the control panel for VaricamLT. Adding to recording control, White Ballance, EI, Shutter Speed are controllable. It gets all of the metadata in every second but you can select the visible items to watch on the table.

HDR project support and various assistant functions

Correct color management is even more critical when creating contents in high-dynamic range (HDR) and wide-gamut. Comprehensive color management permits the colorist to focus more on creative tasks than spending time to manually fix technical issues.

To make HDR contents, you will face a lot of things regarding color, like conversion of color spaces, how to make viewing on-set, simultaneous film making for HDR and SDR...

WonderLookPro provides various functions to support the HDR workflow and slove the issue of it.

Regarding color space conversion, HDR color spaces like PQ and HLG, and SDR color spaces like Rec709 or any other standard gamna, can be defined just selecting input and output color space parameters. Any combination can be achieved. Typical conversions are provided as preset workflow, and you can select the setting by selecting from the list. And WonderLookPro is also providing OOTFs, not only HDR OOTF (BT.2100), but also various film looks or ACES's RRT. These combinations will help you to find the good starting point of your basic look.

For HDR project, the conversion from HDR to SDR will appear a lot of places. The conversion only based on the specification will cut off the highlight brighter than 100nits, and it will not be a good image. You have to adjust it by highlight mapping, exposure shift or some other customization to make good quality of SDR contents form HDR one. WonderLookPro provides a couple of preset transform which is tunable by adjusing the parameters.

Color gamut or HDR brightness warning, false color image labeling with brightness range and WaveForm or Histgram graphs with HDR scale, are the other assistant functions for HDR project.

How to visualize the transform descrived in the LUT

LUT is just the array of numbers. You can not guess what kind of transform it is by just only watching the numbers. But we'd like to confirm the created LUT itself, whether the LUT is made with our intent, input setting, output setting or color correction. WonderLookPro is providing system tone curve and hexagonal color graph to achieve that.

That's all for the overview of the WonderLookPro design and major functions.
